Both sides have launched attacks this week, with Hezbollah stepping up rocket fire on Israeli military bases and Israel saying its forces are carrying out “offensive actions” in southern Lebanon.

The resulting violence has fueled fears of a full-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, who last went to war in 2006.

“During the night, terrorists fired anti-tank rockets into the Har Dov area in northern Israel,” the Israeli military said, referring to the disputed border area of Sheba Farms.

“It injured an Israeli civilian doing infrastructure work; he was later declared dead,” the military added.

Israeli media reported that the victim was an Arab truck driver from Israel. Police told AFP they had not identified the body but said it was the only body found after the truck was hit.

Hezbollah said it destroyed two Israeli vehicles overnight in the Qfarshuba hills in a “sophisticated ambush” against the convoy using rockets and artillery.

The Israeli military did not directly comment on the claim.

It said Israeli fighter jets struck Hezbollah targets in the vicinity of the village of Sheba in southern Lebanon, including a weapons depot and a launch facility, while troops “fired to eliminate the threat in the area”.

The fighter jets also reportedly “struck Hezbollah’s operational infrastructure in the Kfarshuba area and a military complex in the Ain al-Tineho district in southern Lebanon.”

Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that “more than 150 Israeli shells” hit the village of Sheba, Kfarshub and Helt, and that they damaged houses.

Since October 7, when Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel and sparked a war in the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops and Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters have been firing on each other on the border almost daily.

At least 380 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 8. The dead include 252 Hezbollah fighters and dozens of civilians, according to figures compiled by the AFP news agency.

Israel says 11 soldiers and nine civilians were killed on its territory on the Lebanese border.

Tens of thousands of people have already been forced to leave their homes on both sides of the border.
