Gabriela Petraityta, specialist of the 2nd division of the Road Police Board of the Police Department under the MIA, will remember May 7th for a long time.
Just like every day, after taking her six-year-old son to the club, she and her dog went for a walk in the Beržyn Park in Prienai. Having finished her usual route with her four-legged friend, Gabriele was about to turn towards home when she heard the children’s shouts. It seems nothing out of the ordinary – a park, children and shouts. However, the officer found the children’s cries suspicious.
Her intuition did not deceive her, turning towards the pond in the park, she noticed a child floundering in the water, his friend who was nearby was calling for help.
Without waiting for anything, the policewoman ran towards the victim and immediately pulled out the boy, who was already sinking deep.
The child was in shock, but was communicating and begging his mother. Gabriele, who is raising a son of the same age, brought the wet and frozen child home, warmed him up, changed his clothes, contacted the boy’s parents and brought him home.
Both the officer and the boy, who has been in the police system for a decade, experienced a real life lesson.
The police are proud of their colleague’s brave act, and remind the little ones that careless curiosity can lead to painful accidents.
