How to overcome anxiety before a job interview

--

Neither method is the best. So the essential question is how to feel good enough before a job interview? How to find the middle ground that will enable you to go to a job interview with confidence? In this text, I will share some tips that will give you the opportunity to go to a job interview with more confidence.

The key is to understand two things. First, feeling anxious or excited before a job interview is absolutely normal, so you shouldn’t expect yourself to not feel these unpleasant feelings at all. Second, success equals preparation. This means to think about what you will wear, what you will talk about and even take a look from the evening, how to get to the place of the company. It will help more than it will hurt.

So, here are some specific tips that I believe will help anyone experiencing pre-job interview anxiety.

Prepare thoroughly for job interviews

As you have already understood from the beginning of the text, in my opinion, it is necessary to prepare for job interviews. And it should be done for several very important reasons.

First Œ– it is important to realize that you are competing with other candidates. All those candidates who arrive after thinking about how they want to present themselves, what their strong qualities are, how they will talk about their weak personality traits, what successes they want to share, thinking about how they will explain why they came to the job interview organized by company X, etc., will stand out significantly from other candidates. In this way, a person shows respect to the person who organizes the job interview, and also shows motivation and, of course, self-confidence. What are the key indicators that symbolize that such a candidate is suitable for the job position.

Second, preparation is also about coming up with your own questions for the employer. Questions are not only a great way to show motivation, but also to get information about what is happening inside the company. I recommend that you highlight your values, which should be reflected in the company, even before going to job interviews.

Let’s imagine that it is important for you that your immediate supervisor gives you freedom and trusts you. Hence, the question might sound like this: It’s important to me to be trusted to complete tasks, and I find it difficult to work in an environment where micromanagement exists. Does the company have a culture of trust? If so, please provide examples.

Ask for samples. Just as you are asked to make a case with examples, you have every right to ask for examples during job interviews to prove what is important to you.

The third is salary negotiation. This is another reason to prepare for job interviews. People often have a hard time talking about money, but that’s because they’re not ready to talk about it. Therefore, even before the job interview, review the salary ranges that are offered by the company, find out what the average salary is paid in the company and, of course, research what the market offers for the same position. Sign the desired number you would like to receive. And go to the job interview with that number. You can even rehearse how you will talk about the reward you want.

Be careful about what you eat or drink the day before or right before your job interview

If you eat something that makes you feel bloated or upset because of stress, it’s natural that it will be more difficult to concentrate on the answers that the employer will ask you. Likewise, I do not recommend drinking alcohol the day before. It will reduce the sharpness of the mind and reduce the ability to concentrate. If you are already anxious, you should avoid coffee in the morning or right before a job interview.

Of course, before the job interview, refrain from fish dishes or meals that are rich in onion leaves, onions or garlic. Bad breath is repulsive. You don’t want a recruiter or employer to decide not to give you a chance just because you didn’t have fresh breath?

Plan what you will wear

When counseling people before job interviews, I often hear the question: what should I wear? First of all, it depends on the company and the position. In some companies you may need to wear a suit or suit, in others a neat sweater and jeans is enough.

Most importantly, keep in mind that you should plan your outfit the night before. In the evening, check the clothes for stains, holes, all buttons, etc. This will reduce anxiety in the morning.

And the hiring person needs to focus on what you’re saying, not the stain on your shirt or the hole in your sleeve.

job interview

Breathe

I understand that job interviews are anxiety-inducing, for some it is very anxiety-provoking. I once interviewed a person during a job interview who had memorized all the answers and every time he was asked a question, he was so excited that he couldn’t say a single word or often stopped in the middle of a sentence. Understand, he was trying to remember what he had written on the piece of paper.

However, there is really no need to go through it or try to prepare perfectly. After all, a person will talk to you, not a dog, not a spider, not a snake and not a cockroach. Yes, there are all kinds of people. There are those who want to demonstrate their power. But always think: if a person displays his power over another, that’s his problem, not yours. Therefore, you should pity him, not fear him.

I also ask people who are very nervous before a job interview, “Ohwhat’s the worst thing that could happen in a job interview?’ Well, you will make a mistake in your answer, you will make a mistake. But will it really be the worst experience in life? Even if you clicked in a job interview, so what? You can always laugh it off.

So breathe. It’s just. One failed, the other will succeed. The other one failed, the next one will succeed. It is important not to panic and remember that even if you received a negative answer at the beginning, believe in yourself that you have something to offer the job market. Because you really have.

As you have understood, it is necessary to prepare for job interviews comprehensively. In addition to thinking about what you will say, you should also think about what you will dress, eat and with what attitude you will go to the job interview. Looking at your job interview preparation as a whole will increase your chances of success. In any case, the most important thing is to prepare. Because success loves those who work.
