The Arizona Senate, like the House before it, narrowly approved an initiative to repeal a 19th-century abortion law. It prohibits abortion at all stages of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest. Exceptions are possible only if there is a threat to the life of the pregnant woman.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, has yet to sign the now-passed law repealing 1864. abortion ban, but this is considered a formality. It sought to stop a return to centuries-old regulation.

K. Hobbs said on Network X that she accepted the results of the Senate vote with relief.

The aforementioned ban does not directly criminalize women who want to terminate a pregnancy, but the persons who help her to do so – i.e. doctors. Although the law lapsed in 1973, when the country’s constitutional right to abortion was enshrined, it was never actually repealed.

in 2022 in June, the US Supreme Court, with a conservative majority, overturned nearly 50 years of abortion rights. Since then, states have been able to decide independently on abortion regulation, and practice has varied, with some states virtually banning abortion, while others have relatively liberal laws.

Arizona currently prohibits abortion after the 15th week.
