This is 28-year-old goalkeeper Matt Turner.

The goalkeeper of the US national team revealed in 2020 that it took three years to finally hold a Lithuanian passport. It opens the door to Europe more easily, because a football player who has the citizenship of a European Union country is not considered a legionnaire in the territory of the EU.

“I thought I would analyze the possibility of getting a Lithuanian passport. In this way, I thought I would be able to go to Europe after college,” the goalkeeper said.

While managing the family archives, the young man noticed a document telling about his great-grandmother’s emigration from Lithuania.

During World War II, she fled her homeland due to religious persecution.

In 2016-2022, the goalkeeper played in his hometown, the New England Revolution club, and he fulfilled his dream of playing in Europe this season.

In 2022, M. Turner joined the ranks of London’s Arsenal.
