Prof. skilled Dr. Renaldas Jurkevičius, the CEO of Kaunas Clinics, thanks all employees of Kaunas Clinics for their professionalism and endurance in this noble, but often challenging profession. “We not only advance scientific knowledge and implement innovative treatments, but also sincerely care for each member of our community. The principles of justice, respect and responsibility are the basis of our activities. Therefore, I believe that every kind word, sincere respect and constant recognition of our employees are essential elements that strengthen the spirit of our team and maintain a harmonious and positive microclimate in our organization”, emphasized the professor.

Prof. Dr. Tomas Lapinskas, Director of Kaunas Clinics for Public Health, Science and Studies, while congratulating the Hospital community, thanked each employee for their contribution. “I wish not to lose inspiration in everyday life and to remember that the work of each of you is particularly important,” said Prof. Dr. T. Lapinskas. “Community and sense of meaning at work is what unites us.”

The nominations for five nominations – “Doctor of the Year”, “Nurse of the Year”, “Help of the Year”, “Discovery of the Year” and “Hero of the Year” were submitted by the Kaunas clinic community itself. All nominated candidates and the work they have done are important and highly valued in the path of progress of Kaunas clinics, so the assembled committee had a difficult mission to select just a few candidates for each nomination. The people of Kaunas clinics voted for their favorites for two weeks and cast almost 700 votes! It was the votes of colleagues that determined who deserved the awards this year.

Doctor of the year the award was received on a sunny Friday afternoon by dr. Aušra Lukošiūtė-Urbonienė, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Kaunas Clinics Pediatric Surgery Clinic. In 2023, the doctor performed as many as 376 surgical operations, organized and led the “Gastrostomy toys” event, during which children with gastrostomies were given toys with gastrostomy tubes. He also initiated the “Play Hospital” project – during which children are invited to get to know the patient’s path in the hospital, thus reducing children’s fears related to the hospital environment, white coats and procedures.

Nurse of the Year received the most support from the community in the nomination Vaida Paliulionienė, general practice nurse at the pulmonology clinic, responsible for training both young nurses and resident doctors during their clinical work. She speaks English very well, so she devotes a lot of energy and time to training foreign interns. Vaida bravely joined the team of the Pulmonary Hypertension Center and teaches patients to live with this rare chronic disease with great enthusiasm, patience and spares no extra personal time.

Kaunas clinic community decided that Years of help award worthy Ainius Žarskas, Anesthesiology Clinic doctor, anesthesiologist, reanimatologist. His colleagues say that Ainius helps everyone whenever he can, smiles and is loved by patients because of his simplicity and sincerity. The doctor was on a humanitarian mission in Armenia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mantas Jokubauskasan abdominal surgery doctor at the Surgery Clinic won Year of discovery award. In 2023, Mantas became the first doctor in the Baltic States to successfully pass the general surgery qualification exam organized by the European Medical Specialists Organization. This exam demonstrated extremely high professional competence and compliance with international standards of general surgery.

Gedimin Vasiliauskas, a pulmonologist at the Pulmonology Clinic, was awarded the title of Honorary Donor this year for donating blood 50 times. Kaunas clinic community decided that Gediminas is worthy Hero of the year title.

After the award ceremony, Justinas Jarutis created a festive mood, the employees of Kaunas clinics could have a festive lunch and drink hot drinks in the spring courtyard of the Clinics.

The Medical Workers’ Day celebration is another beautiful tradition of the Kaunas clinic community, fostering an organizational culture based on cooperation, creating a positive atmosphere at work, and employee involvement.
