In the first positions of the best-rated Lithuanian universities and gymnasiums, the capital is in the lead, as Vilnius University is at the top of the rankings, and Vilnius Lyceum is among the gymnasiums.

At that time, Vilnius and Kaunas colleges were leading among the colleges.

This was announced on Wednesday by the magazine “Reingai”, which compiles a table of educational institutions every year.

Minor changes in the lower positions of universities

The top five universities continue to be ranked by three higher education institutions from Kaunas and one from Vilnius: this year, as last year, the second place in the ranking is taken by the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Kaunas University of Technology rose to third place from fourth place during the year, exchanging positions with Vytautas the Great University, which remained fourth this year.

Vilnius TECH University remained in the fifth place in the rankings, just like last year.

“Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is the first among state universities according to the added value created by alumni and employers’ evaluations,” the “Ratings” report states.

Among private universities, ISM University of Management and Economics is traditionally the leader, followed by Kazimierz Simonavičius University, which was third last year. LCC International University is in third place this year.

The universities were evaluated according to 35 different parameters, grouped into five criteria. When compiling the ratings, the greatest attention is paid to the evaluations of employers, students and studies, scientific, artistic or sports activities and the achievements of the staff.

According to “Reitingai”, the employability of many high school graduates improved significantly nine months after graduation.

“Most universities in 2023 the number of program graduates who did not find a job after 9 months of graduation is less than one percent,” the report reads.

The leading gymnasiums do not change

Among the gymnasiums that have the right to select students, the Vilnius Lyceum, KTU Gymnasium leads the ranking table, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Gymnasium is in third place, and the Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium is in the fourth place. The positions of these high schools have not changed since last year.

At that time, Klaipėda “Ĺžuolyno” gymnasium remained in fifth place this year, while Vilnius M. Biržiška gymnasium was in it last year.

Klaipėda Lyceum is the first among schools that do not select students, followed by Panevėžys J. Balčikonis Gymnasium. Next in line are “Saulė” private high school, Kaunas “Saulė” high school, Telšiai Žemaitė high school.

The rankings of gymnasiums are based on the results of last year’s state matriculation exams. Gymnasiums received points only for those graduates who passed the exams with grades no lower than 36. The results of the graduates with the lowest scores were not evaluated.

Additional points were awarded to those high schools whose graduates took both the Lithuanian language and mathematics matriculation exams. If students did not take these exams at all, the gymnasium did not receive additional points.

According to the report, in only nine gymnasiums out of approximately 360, all graduates took the mathematics matriculation exam last year. All graduates took the Lithuanian language and literature matriculation exam in only 25 out of 360 gymnasiums.

“The analysis of the magazine “Reitingai” shows that in the absolute majority of high schools, from a tenth to a half of all high school graduates do not take the state matriculation exams in Lithuanian language, literature and mathematics, which have become mandatory since this year (to enter a higher school – BNS),” the report reads.

Student achievement is best in big cities

Among the colleges, as last year, Vilnius and Kaunas colleges are leading, Kaunas Technical College is in third place, and Vilnius College of Technology and Design is in fourth place this year. Last year she was in fifth place.

The top five colleges are completed by the Lithuanian Higher Maritime School, which was fourth last year.

Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, Šiauliai and Kaišiadorys are leading in terms of student achievements.

The worst student achievements were recorded in Pagėgii, Kazlų Rūda, Ignalina, Rietave and Kalvarija.
