In the second round of the men’s singles competition, the 20-year-old tennis player defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko (ATP-59) 6:2, 6:1 in 1 hour and 9 minutes.

For C. Alcaraz, it was the first meeting on the ATP tour after almost a month’s break – after the tournament in Miami, the tennis player suffered from pain in his right hand, which prevented him from appearing in Monte Carlo and Barcelona.

“I think I did really well. For the past month, I’ve only been doing it when I’m training backhand, cut shots and net shots. This was one of the main ideas of this duel – to hit weaker from the right, to be more aggressive from the left, only when there is an opportunity to run to the net. I did all this perfectly,” the winner summed up the duel.

In the Spanish capital, Carlitos won his 12th consecutive victory – he won this Masters tournament in 2022 and 2023 – and aims to become the first tennis player in history to triumph in Madrid three times in a row.

Brazilian tennis player Thiago Seyboth Wild (ATP-63) will be waiting for the former first racket of the world in the third round.

Canadian tennis talent Denis Shapovalov (ATP-132) is also playing a solid tournament in Madrid this week. The 25-year-old tennis player, who missed the second part of last season due to an injury, defeated Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ATP-27) 7:6(3), 6:3 and reached the third round of the tournament for the first time since 2018.
