This was one of the main ideas of this duel – to hit weaker from the right, to be more aggressive from the left, only when there is an opportunity to run to the net. I did all this perfectly,” the winner summed up the duel.

In the Spanish capital, Carlitos won his 12th consecutive victory – he won this Masters tournament in 2022 and 2023 – and aims to become the first tennis player in history to triumph in Madrid three times in a row.

Brazilian tennis player Thiago Seyboth Wild (ATP-63) will be waiting for the former first racket of the world in the third round.

Canadian tennis talent Denis Shapovalov (ATP-132) is also playing a solid tournament in Madrid this week. The 25-year-old tennis player, who missed the second part of last season due to an injury, defeated Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ATP-27) 7:6(3), 6:3 and reached the third round of the tournament for the first time since 2018.
