On the evening of April 26, commemorating the Day of Medical Workers, in the hall of Raudondvaris Arts Incubator, words of thanks were heard for those who every day help people to overcome pain, disability, and healthy people to preserve their health.

“Today is a happy holiday – Medical Workers’ Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for the selfless work you are doing to take care of people’s health. This is an extraordinary mission! I also wish you good health, successful work and the gratitude of the patients,” congratulated Valerijus Makūnas, mayor of Kaunas district municipality.

Juozas Pundzius, former long-time head of the Clinics, professor, public consultant of Kaunas district mayor, also congratulated the doctors at the celebration. He wished doctors to live not only longer, but also better.

This year, the head of the municipality awarded Kaunas district marks to three health care institutions: “Raudondvarios clinic” was evaluated for the active implementation of preventive programs, “InMedica” for the care of protecting patients from infectious diseases, and “Pilėnai clinic” for improving the scope of vaccinations for children and adults.

For professional competence and attentiveness to patients, the head of the municipality presented the Kaunas district municipality medal (badge of distinction) to Edita Šėlina, family doctor of “Pilėnai clinic”. Dermatovenerologist Rita Butylkina of LSMU Kaunas Hospital was awarded a medal for her professionalism and scientific achievements not only in Lithuania, but also internationally.

For impeccable work, sincere communication with patients and unconditional dedication to their profession, 19 Kaunas district medical workers were awarded letters of thanks and commemorative medals from the mayor.

V. Makūnas noticed that many health indicators of Kaunas district residents are better than the Lithuanian average. The conditions and quality of patient service improved last year.

It is also encouraging that the community of Kaunas district has already exceeded the limit of 115,000, and at the same time, the number of residents registered in Kaunas district health care institutions is increasing, reaching almost 70,000.

In most health care institutions in Pakaunia, unified call center services have been installed and are already working perfectly, automatic messages are sent for reminders of visits to doctors, and the institutions’ services are actively publicized in the social space.

Last year there were a number of new establishments: the family doctor’s office in Užliediai was opened after renovation, the Zapyškis branch of the Garliava primary health center resumed operations, the premises of the Domeikava dispensary were renovated, a new nursing and supportive treatment department was opened in Vilkija, and cosmetic repairs were carried out. The network of defibrillators continues to expand in Kaunas district.

The Garliava Health Center was approved as a residency base of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, so it is already possible to respond to the needs of residents and attract them to work in the Kaunas region.

Recently, a new branch of UAB “Žaliakalnio poliklinikos” was opened in Vijūkai.

Good health indicators show that better social and economic conditions have been created in the Kaunas district, a more health-literate community, we are active and sporty. In order to increase the health literacy of the population, the Public Health Office headed by Lauryns Dilis is looking for innovative solutions: it implements projects to prevent the use of harmful substances, organizes exercises led by professional trainers for young people and seniors, provides consultations, takes care of mental health. The office works a lot with families, the community “Auginti gera” was created for this purpose.

The reforms initiated by the Ministry of Health have brought many changes to our lives. A unified national emergency medical service has begun to operate. The government took into account our opinion on the description of the procedure for transporting patients and promised to improve it.

“I’m glad that the cooperation between health center institutions is not only simulated: real cooperation is also taking place, “green corridors” are being created, such as the organization of mammography screenings without a queue at the Kaunas hospital, plans are being developed to activate other preventive screenings”, thanked the mayor.
