Informatics subject module or master’s studies can be chosen at one of the Lithuanian higher education institutions: Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Vilnius College (VK), Vytautas the Great University (VDU), Vilnius University (VU) or Vilnius University Šiauliai Academy (VU ŠA).

Hundreds of pedagogues of the country took advantage of the opportunity

560 pedagogues chose to study in higher education institutions, 179 pedagogues have already completed their studies.

One of them is Tomas Jankūnas, the director of Vilnius Antakalnis pro-gymnasium and teacher of informatics, who chose to study the informatics subject module at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Vilnius University.

“Although technology has accompanied me all my life, this field is developing extremely rapidly, so I decided not to be afraid and update my existing skills. I was pleased with the fact that the modules looked impressive, new programming languages were introduced during them, and all theoretical knowledge about information technology was clearly presented. It is also extremely important that we improved our skills in practice, so basically all the studies were about what the computer science teacher works with at school”, says T.Jankūnas.

According to him, the program provided useful knowledge that helps not only in lessons, but also in making the day-to-day activities of the educational institution more efficient. Finally, it provided an opportunity to share the available experience with colleagues, thus contributing to the faster digitization of the Antakalnis pro-gymnasium.

“I went to study not only as a teacher, but also as a school leader, so I also learned new things that I can apply in the field of planning and administration, and then use it to prepare other teachers as well.” Therefore, I am glad that I had the opportunity to raise my qualifications and deepen my knowledge, which is extremely relevant in today’s world. After all, this is a science that never lets you sleep,” says T. Jankūnas.

According to him, one of the greatest advantages of this program is the possibility of studying remotely, thus more flexibly combining studies with work schedule and personal life: “Since the studies lasted only one year, their pace was really quite intense. Still, the possibility of distance learning saved a lot of time, it was easier to combine studies with other activities.”

Urges to move to modern and innovative education

According to EdTech center manager Indrė Šuolianė, by taking advantage of the offered opportunity, teachers can not only take an important step in their professional path, but also contribute to the formation of modern education.

“We are happy to see the interest of teachers in new opportunities aimed at strengthening the digital competences of educators and expanding the circle of teachers who are well versed in the field of information technology. In this way, we not only encourage, but also help teachers to switch to modern and innovative education, which is dictated to us by the newer technologies coming into the world”, I. Šuolienė shares her thoughts.

The project “Digital transformation of education” is implemented according to the economic recovery and resilience-building plan “New Generation Lithuania”, financed by the funds of the European Union’s economic recovery and resilience-building measure “NextGenerationEU”.

More information on when each higher education institution starts accepting applications is available on the websites of higher education institutions.
