On Friday morning, the people of Alysti shared unusual images on the social network Facebook. Residents of the city recorded the animal walking around the city on their phones. There is speculation as to who this city guest really is. According to the residents, it was a raccoon, but later the police decided that it was a mongoose.
A little later, the Alytus police themselves shared the video about the unexpected arrival. Under the shared video, it was announced that the police had to intervene when the aforementioned animal visited the city.
“After receiving a report that an unknown person is loitering in Topolių St., near the gymnasium, police officers rushed to the scene. The reporter indicated that both schoolchildren and traffic safety could be in danger,” the Alytus police posted on Facebook.
The officers who arrived at the place where the animal was seen had to pat it down. Because the mongoose, running away from the officers, began to wander and pose a danger to road users.
However, the mongoose chase ended happily. As reported by the Alytus police, the animal was “detained” and safely handed over to the animal guardians.
