Over the past five years, the Kauno Buses company, which has renovated almost the entire public transport fleet, will encourage companies and other organizations to provide more convenient and cheaper trips for their employees. From now on, legal entities will be able to purchase annual tickets collectively at a price almost a third lower. This is expected to further encourage sustainable mobility in the city.
In order for employees of the private or public sector to apply for cheaper trips by public transport, it is necessary to purchase at least 100 tickets. In this case, the price of one annual ticket would be 193 euros. Now a regular annual ticket costs 275 EUR.
“With this decision, we will seek companies and institutions to take care of their employees, giving them the opportunity to use cheaper long-term tickets. This makes planning trips to work easier – you don’t have to worry about parking for your own car. At the same time, employers would motivate their employees, shape their image as socially responsible companies, contribute to the implementation of the goals of the sustainable mobility plan of the city of Kaunas, less congestion and more environmentally friendly trips.
If at least some organizations take advantage of this opportunity, it will undoubtedly improve the overall traffic situation in the city, especially during peak hours. The fewer cars on the main arteries, the smoother the journeys of Kaunas residents”, – Kaunas Deputy Mayor Andrius Palionis mentions the advantages of the decision.
The decision regarding annual ticket concessions for company employees was unanimously approved by the sitting city council on Tuesday.
Kaunas adopted this practice based on the good experience of other cities. It is estimated that this solution not only helps residents to save money, but also reduces the time spent in traffic jams.
“We encourage traveling by public transport in various ways – not only with new, less polluting buses and trolleybuses, but also with a convenient ticket system or special pricing for companies that motivate their employees to choose such alternative transport for travel. However, this decision is useful not only for organizations, but also for the city and its residents. We hope that the number of people traveling by public transport will increase,” added Mindaugas Grigelis, CEO of the Kauno Buses company.
Prior to this decision, Kaunas paid a lot of attention to updating the transport infrastructure and public transport fleet. Hundreds of buses and trolleybuses, which rolled off the assembly line just last year, are already rolling through the streets of the city, ensuring even more comfortable journeys.
Kaunas also expands the network of pedestrian and bicycle paths every year. The latter is rapidly approaching the one and a half hundred kilometer mark.
