Germany ends investigation into Russia in 2023 cyber attacks. Germany’s MFA said it “was an RF-sponsored cyber attack against Germany” and that it “will have consequences”.

During a press conference during her visit to Australia, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced that the federal government’s investigation into the 2023 cyber attack on the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the party of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has been closed, The Guardian reports.
“Today we can unequivocally say, [kad] we can attribute this cyber attack to the APT28 group, which is led by the Russian military intelligence service,” said A. Baerbock. “In other words, this was a state-sponsored Russian cyber attack against Germany, which is completely intolerable and unacceptable and will have consequences.”
APT28, also known as Fancy Bear or Pawn Storm, is involved in a number of global cyber attacks.
Baerbock did not provide further details about the cyber attack against the SPD. CERT-EU (EU Computer Security Service) reported the perpetrator of the cyber attack targeting SPD in 2023. in January, which is reportedly of Russian origin and capable of intercepting data. Additionally, Russian hackers disrupted several German websites in response to Berlin’s deployment of tanks in Ukraine, albeit with minimal impact.
