Military expert: Russian units near Avdijivka are just asking for a strike from Ukraine

Military expert Egidijus Papeckys, in a review of the war published on the social network Facebook on Tuesday evening, drew attention to the fact that Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanovs was arrested with a bribe.

He reminded that in 2013-2016 he was the director of Oboronstroj (“Defense Construction”), a company subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, responsible for the construction of military facilities. In 2020, he engaged in the grandiose construction of 16 multipurpose hospitals of the Ministry to treat covid patients, built the Patriot Park and the Church of the Armed Forces.

According to E. Papečkis, only 2022 was saved from the investigation. the war started. He was also included in the Western list of persons subject to sanctions, and now, somewhat unexpectedly, he has been detained.

“We want to believe that this is the beginning of some kind of bigger “cleansing” in the Russian armed forces,” the expert noted.

Speaking about the front, E. Papečkys assessed that the Russians continue to press the Ukrainian forces and have tactical achievements in some places.

“Russian sources report great success at Ocheretyn (a small industrial town 20 km northwest of Avdijivka). The Russians say they will take it soon, and then control a 30-50 km area, as the town towers over them.

I’m not familiar with the area, but I doubt that taking Ocheretyne would give them that much of a tactical advantage. On the other hand, looking at the map, the Russian units that broke through in a narrow line forward are expected to be cut off from the main forces by a blow to one or both flanks, it would be great if that happened.”

Taking into account the fact that the Western countries are announcing new support packages one after the other, E. Papečkys noted that the Russians are probably nervous and guessed that they will increase their revs, while “not the easiest time” awaits the Ukrainians on the front.
