In recent years, there has been a lot of talk about the Dubai club in the Euroleague, but not everyone wants it.
The Spanish media “Encestando” announces that several clubs stand firm and do not want the United Arab Emirates team in the Euroleague. These are Real Madrid, Istanbul Fenerbahçe and Bayern Munich.
In March, the clubs were supposed to vote on the fate of the Dubai team, but the vote was postponed because first it was necessary to get confirmation from the Adriatic League that it agrees to accept the new market.
The reasons why some clubs object are different. One of them is the promised 7-year contract and insufficient contribution to other Euroleague teams that Dubai has promised.
Another is the increased price of players, as the new club could offer higher finances, and zero fees, which would allow signing stars cheaper than in Spain, Germany, France or Greece.
The third is an unwritten agreement with Svetislav Pešić and contracts with at least three EuroLeague players are already being negotiated without even getting confirmation from the league.
