Lithuanian holidays: no longer abroad and without amenities

--

The LNK journalist talked to Vilnius residents and Revolut representative Akvile Adomaityta about Lithuanian holiday plans.

“I’m going to the Emirates, because I’ve never been there,” said a passer-by.

“We will be on vacation in Nida at the end of May. We have the opportunity to take a vacation this year, when the school year is not yet over,” the girl shared her plans.

“Apparently, not in Lithuania. Because it’s much cheaper, nicer, lots of sun, warm water abroad,” said the Vilnius resident about her favorite vacation.

Next, the LNK journalist continued the conversation with A. Adomaityte.

– You conducted a survey, you announce that most Lithuanians will not go on vacation abroad this year, but will choose Lithuania.

– Yes, in fact, practically half of Lithuanians spend their holidays in Lithuania, and this is not some exceptional trend. We conducted a survey in fifteen European countries, it is true that most Europeans prefer to rest in their own country. The most popular destination among Lithuanians this year is Poland. In fact, we saw this trend last year as well. We see that it is ahead of everyone’s favorite Turkey.

Full report – in the LNK video:

– What are these people specifically? Maybe we are talking about older people who will stay in Lithuania?

– Actually, mostly young people go abroad, such young people aged 18-24. Already older people with their families choose to rest in Lithuania. And, unfortunately, not going abroad and just spending free time at home is mostly said by seniors who can.

– And when do Lithuanians want to cross the threshold of their homes and travel abroad or spend their holidays in Lithuania? Because even now the weather is very good, it looks like we could go on vacation. What month is it? Are the summer months still the most popular?

“Still, yes.” July, August are traditional months. We notice trends that southern Europeans – Spaniards, Italians, residents of German-speaking countries – tend to plan their holidays more in spring or early autumn.

– We know that Lithuanians really like to travel to Greece, Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, they choose “all inclusive”. As far as I have talked with tour operators, full planes should depart this year. But as I understand it, your survey shows that fewer and fewer Lithuanians want such vacations, want to choose wild nature, and are longing for real experiences.

– We actually asked what vacation experience is the one you look forward to the most. For Lithuanians, like other Europeans, the essential moment of their vacation is to see sights, interesting architecture and taste local food. And only in third place was that “all inclusive” hotel. It is interesting that Lithuanians were among the least fans of such a choice and give priority to other things. As I mentioned, what distinguished Lithuanians the most in the survey is their love for nature and especially for camping near water bodies, traveling in camper vans.

– Vacations in the wild and in the hotel can be not only joyful, but also full of surprises. So what are Lithuanians afraid of?

– Yes, it is natural that vacations cause worries and anxiety. Lithuanians are most worried about having good weather and not having any natural elements. Other Europeans, who are perhaps more used to good weather, are less worried about it. And everyone is really worried about fraudsters on the trip, into which they can fall, about all kinds of inconveniences at airports, about delayed or lost luggage.

– But, on the other hand, surprises can also be joyful, because it is an adventure.

– Yes, some people have a rather positive view of travel. This was one of the highest rates in Europe. They say that travel is all about adventure and they won’t let anything ruin that holiday spirit.
