Why was the second tender line created?

The second round of competition is part of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports’ plan to increase access to higher education, it was prepared together with social partners and higher schools. This is aimed at creating the best possible conditions for all young people who are ready for studies to come to higher education institutions. The social environment must not become an obstacle to the pursuit of higher education.

Who can apply?

Applicants from very low-income families, who are no older than 25 years old, will be able to use the second competition line. orphans, wards, with 45% or a lower level of participation or a level of severe or moderate disability, as well as graduates of short studies and those with at least 24 months practical experience. Military service is also considered a practical activity.

What counts as practical experience?

Practical activity experience includes the last 3 years of work under an employment contract, voluntary activity under a voluntary activity contract, completed mandatory initial military service, professional military service and voluntary non-permanent military service. Military service is not subject to the 3-year period requirement, days of service are added up. That is, if the military service was completed more than three years ago, and it lasted at least 24 months, the applicant will have the right to participate in the second competitive round.

What are the requirements for applicants for the second competitive round?

The same academic preparation requirements apply as for all applicants. This is:

  • pass three state matriculation exams: Lithuanian language and literature, mathematics (it is not required when entering the arts) and freely chosen by the applicant (it is not necessary to choose it after completing short degree studies);
  • the minimum competitive score set by higher schools was achieved.

In addition to these two academic preparation requirements, it is important to meet one of the following criteria:

  • social benefit is received;
  • orphan, ward;
  • 45 percent or a lower level of participation or a severe or moderate level of disability;
  • completed short degree studies or gained practical experience.

What is a short degree?

Still in 2022 short degree studies started in colleges – an alternative path to higher education. These studies are most relevant for those who have acquired a professional education and wish to continue their studies in higher education institutions, as well as for those experiencing financial difficulties – they allow you to acquire qualifications faster and immediately start your professional career. Short-term studies last up to 1.5 years, during which a qualifying diploma is obtained.

How will the second row be formed? Will any criteria, such as practical work experience, have more weight than others?

All social dimension criteria are equal and none will have more weight than others. It is important to match one of them.

How many freshmen are expected to be accepted according to the second competitive order?

At least 10 percent is planned for the second competitive round. full state funding for first-cycle and full-time study places. This will make it possible to accept almost 1.3 thousand candidates according to the second competitive order. students from socially sensitive backgrounds, they will study for free.

How to apply?

Like all applicants, applicants for the second round of the competition will be able to submit applications from June 1, after registering in the general admission information system (BPIS) on the website.

When filling out the form, which is an integral part of the application, it will be necessary to indicate that the person has the right to apply for the second competitive round, that is, he meets at least one of the criteria for the second competitive round. Data on these criteria will be obtained from the Education Management Information System. If such data is not enough, then the applicant will be asked to upload scanned copies of documents proving this to BPIS.

If I do not get a state-financed study place in the second round of competition, will I be able to participate in the competition for state-financed study places in the first round of competition?

Yes, all BPIS registrants and applicants will participate in both tender queues. Those who have the attribute of social dimension will first compete in the second competitive round, and if they do not receive an invitation to a state-financed study place, then they will participate in a joint competition with all applicants.

Will I have to fill out a separate application for the first competitive cycle if I do not receive an invitation to study in the second cycle?

No, you will not need to fill in anything additionally. All entrants who have registered in the general admission system and filled in their preferences will participate in the competition.
