The Deputy Minister of National Defense, Greta Monika Tučkutė, met with James Hursch, the director of the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), with whom she discussed the acquisitions of Lithuania and the US, as well as the development possibilities of the defense industry. This is announced in the ministry’s announcement to the public “The aim is to increase cooperation between the defense industry of Lithuania and the United States”.
During the meeting, the increase of Lithuania’s defense expenditures and the importance of modernization of the Lithuanian armed forces were emphasized. The Vice Minister thanked the United States for its leadership in increasing the industrial capabilities of NATO allies’ defense capabilities.
“The USA is one of the main allies ensuring the security of the Baltic region, and also one of the main partners of Lithuania in the field of defense acquisitions. Lithuania is the largest buyer of US weapons among the Baltic states. We see a great need for cooperation between the US and Lithuanian defense industry and attracting investments to Lithuania. We are preparing a new Law on the Defense Industry, which will open wider opportunities for cooperation in the field of the defense industry,” said GM Tučkutė.
The average value of the planned purchases of Lithuanian armaments from the USA in the medium term is about 1.3 billion. – ie 20 percent all planned acquisitions of the national defense system.
It is reported that the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency promotes US defense and foreign policy interests by strengthening the capabilities of US allies and partner countries to respond to common challenges.
