After being criticized for the failed liberalization of the electricity market, when energy becomes more expensive for consumers even when it is cheap on the market, Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys stated that this is not true.

“I will try to draw your attention once again that the price of electricity on the stock exchange is one of the lowest during the entire period of liberalization in Lithuania. However, it does arise for residents, the press writes about it continuously. Electricity suppliers even blame the weather for getting away with it, forgetting that it’s been unusually warm this year, well, maybe this week’s weather would be an exception. During the crisis, instead of limiting the profits of electricity suppliers, you compensated the rising electricity prices from the residents’ pockets. Taking into account the fact that “Perlas Energija”, “Inregnum”, “Birštonos elektra” left the market, in the end, a misunderstanding arose due to an overpayment of 160 million euros when calculating the price of electricity… Don’t you think it’s time to admit that electricity market liberalization brought only chaos and chaos to Lithuania? Lithuanian residents suffered the most. Isn’t it time to review harmful decisions?” – MP Aidas Gedvilas inquired about D. Kreivius.

“The claims about rising prices are completely off the roof. The price regulator shows that they are gradually decreasing in supply. All suppliers’ prices are consistently decreasing as market prices decrease. We have data from the Lithuanian Energy Agency, we follow them constantly.

Regarding liberalization, I will repeat myself once again. Without the liberalization that was adopted by the last Seimas and provided by the previous Government, today there would be no development of renewable energy, Lithuania would not have its own production and we would continue to import huge amounts of electricity from abroad. Just because we have created the necessary conditions for the expansion of renewable energy, prices are consistently decreasing in Lithuania; our people install solar power plants in residential houses. We have over 100 thousand in remote power plants. generating consumers, when people generate electricity for themselves and do not pay for it (obviously, having invested beforehand). I think that your statements are completely wrong and misleading”, D. Kreivys testified.

Unfortunately, the minister is wrong when he says that suppliers are cutting prices.

“Electricity prices are low on the stock exchange, but some suppliers have increased the rates of fixed price plans”, – announces the Lithuanian Energy Agency.
