The big weekend of the traditional festival “Kaunas Jazz” started both on the streets and in the halls of Kaunas. On Friday, a fun tradition of the festival continued in the garden of the War Museum – a children’s painting action on the asphalt, which, as in previous years, brought a happy smile to the famous musicians coming to the event. This tradition started 25 years ago – the first time children painted the “Kaunas Jazz” mood on the pavement back in 1999. A carillon concert took place there, in the garden of the War Museum, symbolically announcing the beginning of the big festival weekend. This time, Giedrius Kuprevičius performed the symbolically named program “Bellswing”. The English name can be understood in two ways – it means both a swinging bell and a swing made with bells. A little later, the festival moved to the National Drama Theater of Kaunas. One of the most hard-working musicians of today’s Lithuanian jazz and pop music scene – pianist, composer, vocalist Giedrius Nakas – did not let the large audience get bored. Grammy nominee American jazz trumpeter and vocalist Theo Croker appeared in the second part of the concert.
