According to the letter sent to him by “Ignitis”, the wind farm “Vējo galia I” has already been built, but due to the complexity of the service, it is currently not possible to assign the part of the wind farm to producing users.

“Ignitis” public relations project manager Laura Beganskienė 15 minutes confirmed that the innovation presented in October 2022 in the country’s energy sector – the possibility to rent a part of the wind power plant in the wind park under construction in Mazeikiai – is no longer available.

In addition, according to her, the demand for renting a part of the wind park to private generating users is lower than expected – currently, only about 1.2 MW has been preliminarily reserved out of the 4.5 MW planned for the rental project.

“Also, after the situation in the energy market has changed, the wind farm rental service is no longer economically valuable for the user, it is not possible to guarantee the planned savings to the customers. Therefore, after assessing all the circumstances, we decided not to continue renting the wind park to private individuals and to terminate the preliminary lease agreements with customers, and such a possibility was foreseen”, explained the representative of the company.

I. Beganskienė informed that the company will provide the clients with compensation in the amount of 150 euros, which includes the 50 euros reservation fee paid by them. This amount will be transferred to the customer’s account from which he transferred the reservation fee.

Claimed to be the first in the world

In October 2022, the state-owned energy company Ignitis announced that it was the first in the world to start offering residents to rent a part of a wind power plant online.

The wind park was still under construction, so it was planned that residents who had reserved a part of the power plant at that time would start electricity generation in the second half of 2023. side True, it should not have been available to all residents, but only to “Ignitis” customers.

The total installed capacity of the wind park “Vējo galia” located in Mažeikiai district, which will be developed by Ignitis’ subsidiary “Ignitis Renewables”, is 63 megawatts (MW), of which 4.5 MW was to be leased to residents.

Residents who rented a wind farm had to pay 36 euros per kilowatt (kW) per month. By the way, the contract was limited and concluded for 2 years.

As Ignitis development manager Karolis Dargis explained at the time, the electricity generated by the wind farm will be converted into a monetary value under conditions agreed with the supplier and accumulated in the customer’s supply account. The user will continue to purchase all the required electricity from the supplier according to the chosen plan at the prices stipulated in the contract, and his electricity bill will be covered by the value of the energy produced by the leased part of the wind farm.

At the end of the rental agreement or if the user terminates the supply agreement with the supplier, the accumulated value of electricity will be paid to the user under the conditions stipulated in the agreement. And if the value of the energy produced during the current month is greater than the bill for the energy consumed, the remaining value will be accumulated to cover future bills.

K. Dargis explained that this the project is a pilot project aimed at assessing the attractiveness of the service and testing the operating principles.
