An armored car in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, who was visiting Ukraine this week, was driving caught fire in the center of Kyiv, a diplomat reported on Thursday.

“I was sitting with (Estonian ambassador) Kaimo Kuuskas in the back seat, and suddenly Kaimo said that something was going on. Then flames erupted behind us,” U. Reinsalu said during the government’s press conference in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.

Employees could only open the door from the outside, the trunk lid was also blocked, the minister said. “Luckily the back door finally opened because the car would have turned into a gas chamber in seconds.”

No one was injured in the incident on Tuesday night. U. Reinsalu did not provide any information about the possible cause of the fire that destroyed the car. The remains of the car must be examined by experts.

This car was given to the ambassador of Estonia, a member of the European Union and NATO, by the country’s police and border guard service.
