This week, investigators accused M. Solski, that he, as the head of a large agricultural company and a member of parliament, illegally appropriated state land for 291 million. hryvnias (6.7 million euros).

The court of corruption cases ordered his arrest until June 24, the prosecutor’s office said.

Earlier this week, Solski offered to resign and promised to cooperate with the investigation.

Prosecutors said Friday they have also charged a dozen other suspects in the case, including government officials.

M. Solskis, who owned several agricultural companies, was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament in 2019, and in March 2022 he was appointed Minister of Agriculture.

Since February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, there have been several corruption cases in the latter, but mostly involving lower-ranking officials involved in military procurement.

Ukraine, which is seeking membership in the European Union, has promised to intensify the fight against corruption.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy fired the country’s defense minister last year due to corruption scandals in the army.
