“With these terrible weapons, Russia has reached a new level of brutality,” writes the German publication.
The new project aims to solve the problems that the previous models of the system – TOS-1A Solncepiok and TOS-2 Tosočka – faced on the battlefield.
The system, called TOS-3, is more powerful and, most importantly, fires farther (up to 15 km) than the TOS-1 and TOS-2 (4-6 km), so it can avoid Ukrainian drones.
Earlier models of TOS (Solncepiok, Buratino, Tosočka) shoot at a relatively short range, so they are very vulnerable. Ukrainian drones regularly destroy Russian TOS systems because they are relatively easy to find and access.
The Drakon fires missiles with thermobaric warheads. One salvo can turn several city blocks into ruins, and can also destroy fortifications and bunkers.
Victims near the center of the TOS blast radius are crushed to death. Excessive pressure can break bones, put out eyes, cause internal bleeding, damage eardrums, intestines and other internal organs. It also sucks the air out of the victim’s lungs – so it’s possible to die from suffocation as well.
