Kaunas Literature Week is not only for adult readers. Traditionally, on May 10-11, the children’s literature festival “Living Letters” organized by the Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature will take place. We publish his program.

May 10

10 o’clock children’s “masked” procession based on Kazios Binkis’ “Rabbit Uprising” in the old town and an event in the garden of the Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature. Hosted by actor Remigijus Endriukaitis.

at 5 p.m. Sonata Latvėnaitė-Kričeniene, Indrė Šeputienė (Muzikija publishing house)

We invite you to a musical experiential journey through the book “Maestro (does not) let you play”. The creators of this book will introduce you to maestro Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, the interesting things of his life and the wonderful music of “Carnival of the Beasts”. Suitable for both young and old – anyone who loves (or doesn’t yet) love music. Duration 1 hour, for grades 1-4.

May 11

12 o’clock Presentation of Jūras Smiltė’s book “Adventures of Brigita Begemotaitė and her friends”.

Writer born and raised in Lithuania, living in the USA for 30 years, Jūra Smiltė (real Evelina Gužauskytė) and illustrator Gintarė Laurikėnienė invite young readers to get acquainted with the book “Adventures of Brigita Begemotaitė and her friends” (Homo Liber publishing house, 2023). During the meeting, you will hear a story from this book “How Gitė and Leonardas Lūtas caught a whale”, we will invite you to free your imagination in a creative workshop. The work is included in doc. Dr. Kęstutis Urba’s list of recommended books for 2nd grade. for schoolchildren, published in the magazine “Rubinaitis”. She also entered the 2023 a long list of the top ten published children’s books.

Duration 1 hour The age of the participants is 5-10 years.

at 2 p.m. Ignė Zarambaitė with the literary-educational activity “What books and dolls talk about”

The book “Magic Grandpa’s Shoes” tells the story of a boy named Enrique, who lives like any other child in the world – he reluctantly shares a room with his sister, likes to run frantically in the corridors during breaks between classes, loves ice cream and is sad when faced with injustice. When he loses his grandfather, it seems to Enrik that he will never have such a good friend again, hear such interesting stories, and the armchair in the living room will forever remain empty. But then he discovers… his grandfather’s shoes. And miracles begin! During the meeting, the writer will talk about the book and her magical item – football boots, once given to her by her father. Enrikas, the character of the book – Ignė’s hand-made theater puppet – will also participate in the presentation with the writer. During the workshop, children will create a cardboard-textile character.

Duration about 1 hour, for grades 1-4.

4 p.m. Virgis Šidlauskas with the program “Character rock and roll”

We invite all children to become part of the orchestra! You will help perform the pieces – beat the rhythm, make funny noises, dance as you wish. And you will hear about the birth of the writer Virgis Šidlauskas’s books, characters, and ideas, because his work is closely related to music. Finally, they will gather the characters of the books into a musical group and spice it all up with fun drawings and fun songs. It will be really cool, you can participate too!

Duration about 1 hour. The age of the participants is 5-10 years.

Classes are free.
