Both men were the band’s bass players, and their death dates are just one day apart.

The dates of death are only one day apart

As the news portal tv3.lt previously wrote, he fell from the eighth floor of an apartment building on April 25. P. Jaskūnas was killed.

April 25 around 5 p.m. 25 minutes The body of a dead man (born in 1982) was found in the yard of a house in V. Druskios St., Vilnius. According to preliminary data, the man fell out of the window of the apartment. A pre-trial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.

Mr. Jaskūnas recently performed with the group “Midnight Gents”. He also previously played in the group “Žalvarinis” and with famous national performers, such as Marijonas Mikutavičius, Jurga Šeduikytė and others.

Two years ago, almost on the same day – on April 26 – a musician, a member of the band “Zhalvarinis”, as well as bassist D. Zhostautas, died in Slovakia, the man was 35 years old.

As previously written, the man was not only a musician, but also a glider pilot, he died during a competition held in Slovakia.

At that time, the page of the competition stated that the two gliders collided and the pilots fell into a wooded area. Both pilots were found dead, it was reported that the other deceased was from Poland.

Just two months before his tragic death, on February 27, 2022, D. Žostautas announced on the social network that he and his wife, Sigita Jonynaite, vocalist of the band “Žalvarinis”, had a new family – a son, Vytis Vasaris, was born to the couple.

The glider competition ended tragically

Earlier, S. Jonynaitė-Žostautienė herself told the news portal tv3.lt about the loss of her husband. At that time, she said that even when she was expecting her son, she and her husband were planning a family vacation in Slovakia, which they were going to make an annual family tradition.

They planned to travel to this country for a reason – it was there that the glider competition was held, in which Dom had decided to participate. It was his fourth season of gliding.

The couple went to this competition when Vyčius was only two months old. However, upon arriving at the competition venue, the plans were soured by unfavorable weather for gliding, so the family had a few days of free time to look around the area.

“I was glad that we could be together. After a few days, the weather improved, so the gliders were already preparing for the next day’s flight from the very evening. By the way, we lived in such a house where more Lithuanians stayed, we had shared rooms, and ours was on the third floor.

It was during that period that Vytis was very restless, he screamed so much that I could not calm him down. That night before the competition, I even cried myself, thinking how much Dom could be with his friends, because they were chatting downstairs, having fun.

However, when he came and took Vytis in his arms, he immediately calmed down. I sat down and tears started rolling down my face, I became sad, and Dom stroked my head,” shares Sigita.

Just that evening, what Dom dreamed about happened – for the first time, his son Vytis fell asleep while lying on his chest.

The singer said that when she woke up the next morning, everything happened very quickly, Dom was in a hurry for the competition, so he gathered everything and ran out the door, and she only managed to wish him good flying. Vytis was restless again, so together with him, Sigita went to the pharmacy to buy a pacifier.

“While walking and looking at the navigation, I got lost, my body felt like panic, anxiety, I thought I was lost, I heard the sound of a helicopter flying by. I stopped, calmed down, thought I didn’t need any pacifiers and went back to the cabin. I got ready there and went to the airfield, I wanted to be as close to it as possible.

After arriving at the airport, I sat in the car and started feeding Vytis. I saw that the location of the Dome is somewhere 20 km away, but it is not clear how far that road actually was. I met Andrii Tamulėnas, who asked where Dom was as he passed by. I answered that I was waiting for him, because I myself did not know where he was.

And Andrius is one of those people who always seems to be smiling and happy. But I’m just watching as he turns around and comes back to me, and he has an expression on his face that I’ve never seen before,” said the vocalist of the group “Zhalvarinis”.

Sigita said that at that time the real location of the man shown on the phone continued to not change, and there was no way to contact him, because Dom did not answer his calls.

However, the woman said that at that time there was not the slightest suspicion that something might have happened to the spouse. It was just strange why no one came to meet him if he landed outside the airfield:

“Andrius came up to me, looks at me and says: “I don’t know how to tell you. Dom was killed.” I couldn’t believe his words at all, I said it was nonsense, it couldn’t be, how does he know, I even started screaming because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I started to call the other glider, to ask, to say that they were telling me that Dom had died, but then I heard an order to calm down, because it was not Dom’s but the Polish glider that had fallen.

For a moment there was hope, but again I heard how Andrius, who was nearby, was talking to someone from Lithuania and asking what to do, because Dom was killed. I started shouting for him not to talk like that. I have a small child in my arms, and I just started to feel sick, it seemed that everything hurts, my stomach is spinning, and all the fuses in my head are blown.”

Sigita did not hide that the unexpected news of her husband’s death was terrible. At first, this news was difficult to believe, but finally, after the organizers received confirmation from the services that had arrived at the place, it turned out that two Lithuanian and Polish pilots were killed after all.

It is believed that while hovering in the air, the Pole did not notice Dom’s glider, so while performing the maneuver, he possibly hit it and both of them fell in the mountains. The rescued pilots had no chance due to lack of time and the fact that at that time they were flying over a rocky mountain covered with trees.

Sigita said that it was painful for everyone around to understand what happened. Soon after hearing about Dom’s death, his parents and sister, Sigita’s mother, rushed to Slovakia.

“None of us who were around could think soberly then. It was difficult for everyone. Dom’s parents, his sister and my mother came. We spent some more time in Slovakia until we got permission to bring Dom home.

My only desire at that time was to see him, to touch him for the last time, to wash him, to dress him. Luckily there was Dom’s sister who speaks good English and has a strong character, so even though they didn’t want to allow it, I was able to do it. It was my kind of farewell to him”, said S. Jonynaitė-Žostautienė.
