Some time ago, Emmanuel Macron’s brave statement that he does not rule out the possibility of sending ground troops to help Ukraine fight against Russia made waves around the world. The French leader called on Ukraine’s allies not to be “cowards” and to support Kiev in the fight against the occupiers.

E. Macron’s position towards Russian President Vladimir Putin is getting tougher, recently the French leader stated that V. Putin poses a threat not only to Ukraine, but also to the security of all Europeans. He described the war in Ukraine as “existential” for Europe.

Here are five hypothetical LCI TV scenarios for how French troops could help Ukraine achieve victory at the front.

In the first, least dangerous scenario, France would help Ukraine build military factories. In this case, the French would send only a small number of their engineers to a country at war. About such a step back in March. Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu also announced that it is not clear whether French engineers will be sent to Ukraine.

“The three French companies will establish partnerships with Ukrainian companies, especially in the drone and land equipment sectors, to be able to produce spare parts on Ukrainian territory, and in the future, possibly ammunition,” he explained. “We want the first production units to start operating this summer.”

In the second scenario, the French military would carry out demining work and train the Ukrainian armed forces, the report said. Ukraine has become one of the most mined countries in the world. In less than two years, the conflict has created one of the biggest demining challenges since World War II.

In the third case, France would help defend Odesa, perhaps the most important Ukrainian port city. It is indicated that French troops could be deployed in Ukraine to install air defense systems.

“According to this option, the French could get involved in the conflict as militant allies of Kiev, if the military shot down the enemy’s missile,” says one of the show’s participants, who called it a dangerous scenario.

It was Odesa that became one of the most frequently attacked Russian targets since the beginning of the war, when the Russian advance deep into the country was stopped. Now the Russians frequently attack the port city with missiles and drones in an attempt to destroy important Ukrainian infrastructure.

The fourth option sounds even more dangerous. According to it, the French army would create a border protection zone in Ukraine. It is being considered to send troops there “to relieve the Ukrainians from some missions.”

The program indicates that in such a case there would be patrolling along the border with Belarus, through which in 2022 February 24 the first Russian invaders invaded.

The fifth scenario is the fight against the Russian occupiers on the front lines. It would also mean World War III.

Evaluated the significance of the scenarios

French political expert Gintas Karalius emphasized on Facebook that these scenarios are completely hypothetical and continue the line of French strategic obscurity.

A lecturer at Vilnius University’s Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences (TPSMI) predicted that without allies, France would not implement any of the scenarios unilaterally. In addition, such a decision would not receive public support.

“What is more important in these public speculations is not their reality, but how radically the tone of the media has changed over the course of a month,” the political scientist explained. – From the depressive “we can’t do anything, we don’t pay, we don’t want to, let’s wait for the US elections” to considerations of “how much better it would be to hit back” and even some hussar bravado.”
