Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė assures that VAT benefits for catering establishments will not be extended, as they were introduced due to the quarantine, and it is no longer there.

“Recently, there was a rally of catering establishments near the Government. I want to ask, do you know the results of the Prime Minister’s meeting with the representatives of catering establishments? Was there any compromise found so that VAT would ease this burden? Now the banks are no longer granting any credits to catering establishments, because there is debt since the quarantine , of the pandemic period. In the regions, we can already see two or three closed cafes. My main question would be about catering establishments, which are already providing services to hospitals, schools, old people’s homes and the like?” – MP Robertas Šarknickas inquired about Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė.

“I don’t know the results of the meeting, I wasn’t there myself, but the Government’s position has always been consistent – to oppose the extension of this benefit. It was only introduced during the pandemic restrictions, giving relief to those businesses that could not operate. It has always been proposed to waive the relief when the restrictions have expired. That was done. The Seimas decided – the relief was not extended. I would say that the Government’s position has always been consistent. At least the big losses of the state budget are due to fast food restaurants, and not due to the entities you mention”, – answered G. Skaistė.
