The Seimas granted the status of special national importance to the electricity transmission network expansion projects in the north-west of Lithuania.

The construction of the infrastructure planned by Litgrid, the operator of the Lithuanian electricity transmission system, will increase energy security, ensure reliable electricity transmission, stable operation of the system and create conditions for the development of renewable energy resources, operator Litgrid announces.

Today, the electricity transmission network development projects include the construction of 330 kV power transmission lines in DarbnaiVarduva and PanevysMa, the construction of the 330 kV Varduva transformer substation and the preparation of nuclear reactors in the switchboards of Darbn and Mos.

after the implementation of these projects, the Lithuanian network of 330 kV lines will be expanded across Lithuania, which will ensure a stable and reliable energy flow in the region. In addition, the new 330 kV electricity transmission lines from Darbn to Panevis are also important in the development of the renewable energy development. This will be an additional electric highway between yesterday, where renewable energy is rapidly developed, offshore wind farms are planned, and tomorrow, where electricity consumption is growing the most, Rokas Masiulis, head of Litgrid, is quoted in the report.

Changes in the generation of renewable resources determine the distribution of electricity flow, when yesterday in Lithuania more wind generation is connected to the grid, and tomorrow in Lithuania the sun. With the increase of renewable resources for integration across the region of Lithuania, it is necessary to ensure the reliability and quality of electricity transmission in 330 kV networks.

The 330 kV Darbn substation is an important energy node, which will distribute the electricity produced by the offshore wind park yesterday through the Lithuanian electricity transmission lines. The new lines of the electricity transmission network from Darbn to Panevi will increase the reliability of the network, and will also open the possibility of integrating a new intersystem connection with Latvia.

As of yesterday, the length of the electricity transmission network connecting DarbnaiVarduva and Panevys will tentatively reach 240 kilometers. It is planned that the construction projects of the new facility could be completed by 2034.
