A new street art drawing is on the wall of the Alytus City Social Services Center!

The 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union in Alytus was marked by a special piece of street art. A mural decorated the wall of another building in the capital of Dzūkija. On the wall of the social services center of the city of Alytus, a joint drawing of two artists, Pijaus Šematulskis from Alytus and Gabrielias Žvirblis from Dluskin, has been unveiled, depicting people with smiles on their faces.

The aim of this work was to broadcast a message about the values fostered by the EU – community, dignified and respectful neighborhood policy, emphasizing openness to different points of view, dialogue, and cooperation.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by a small group of art lovers and guests. As the initiator of this idea, MEP Petras Auštrevičius, said, they wanted to give meaning to the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union by leaving a creative mark – by creating a piece of street art.

“Alytus was not chosen by chance, during the referendum the most support was received from the people of the capital of Dzūkija. We wanted to thank the people of Aly for this. Therefore, this important date in Alytus is given meaning by a work of art,” said P. Auštrevičius.

Lina Gaidžiūnaitė, the vice-mayor of the Alytus city municipality, also spoke. “The city of Alytus is the most youthful and creative city. I believe that this border will proclaim the values cherished by the European Union”, she said.

This work of art was created in a record time of 3 weeks. More time spent on sketching. The work itself was painted on the wall in a few days.

The artists who decorated the building with a wonderful work of art said that the greatest thanks for them is appreciation. “We have already heard comments from several people about our work. It made me happy that our drawing made people feel good. And we wanted to make sense of the neighborhood as it is. We are surrounded by many different people, we can greet everyone, smile at each other”, said P. Šematulskis and G. Žvirblis.
