Demolish the old retirement home or try to revive it? Such a dilemma was solved by the family of Tomas and Jūratė Pocevičius, who lived abroad for some time. Today, the cozy tourist homestead established in the Alytus district, near Miroslav, was probably the best decision made. It’s not for nothing that it’s called “Liepa krantas” – the linden trees planted by Tom’s grandparents still rustle right next to the water body. And it has become a place of attraction for townspeople from all over Lithuania who long for a peaceful rest in the shelter of nature or simply looking for a unique place for celebrations.

The renovated farmhouse also has authentic details

“First, we built a new house for ourselves in the homestead, and then we decided what to do with the old homestead of our grandparents – demolish or renovate, give it a new life. From the guests who visited us, we kept hearing how comfortable it is here, how beautiful the nature is. Then the idea arose to share that beauty with the guests, and everything came together in such a way that where the grandparents lived, we gradually set up a homestead for holidays and recreation,” said Tomas.

This homestead, which has been welcoming visitors for the fourth year, really decorates the Miroslava neighborhood in the Alytus district, the bright brownish-red buildings with their ornate white window frames attract the eyes of passers-by. There is also an orangery and a spacious terrace. You can warm up in the sauna, treat yourself to the pleasures of the sauna tub. Although the buildings on the farm have been renovated both externally and internally, adapted to the guests, the landscape itself retains many authentic details, such as the old lime trees.

The environment is scrupulously cultivated, the greenery of nature is enriched by a huge body of water. Both thirteen-year-old and ten-year-old daughters – Auksė and Ema – also contribute to the cultivation of her beauty.

Nostalgia and connection with nature overcame opportunities abroad

The old farmhouse is full of nostalgic memories. This is where Tomas spent his childhood summers, so he developed a very close relationship with nature.

“We also had opportunities to create a comfortable life abroad, but we were always attracted to the Dzūkija region and its nature. My grandfather’s homestead and its wonderful location became the main reason to return to my homeland. We have never regretted this decision. In addition, we did not miss the opportunity to participate in the business support program of the Alytus district municipality and received support. This facilitated the development of our business,” says Tom.

Actively takes on the role of district ambassador

This homestead is an additional source of income for the family. This year’s warm season calendar is already filled with orders. By the way, the Poceviči family plans to expand business services and sees great potential for this.

“We sincerely want the Alytus district to be more attractive, to have something to offer tourists and guests. Our homestead is located in a favorable geographical location – 15 minutes away is Metelii regional park with an exposition in the directorate, an observation tower, the Kumečiai waterfall, and there are mounds around. We always use the opportunity to broadcast the news about the Alytus district, its places of interest, and unique landscape to our guests. We really have something to celebrate and something to show. We try to be ambassadors of our district. I really hope that our success story will be an inspiration to come to live in the Alytus region and maybe even create businesses. There is definitely a lot of potential here,” Tom is convinced.

And “Liepų krantas” receives visitors from all regions of Lithuania. Residents of big cities are especially actively looking for recreation opportunities surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of cities. Tom notices that the need to spend time in nature increases, especially in the warm season.

Liepų krantas, located in the Alytus district, is one of the participants of the “Business Flight” program. The purpose of the program is to promote the creation, growth and development of start-up small and medium-sized business entities in the regions of Lithuania. In the 7-month project, you can expect: a mentoring program, expert consultations – refinement of the idea, selection of the right model, business consultations, individual business growth plans, the developed infrastructure of cooperation centers “Spiečius” for work and meetings throughout Lithuania.

If your business operating in the Alytus district, the products it creates, the services it provides have been evaluated by national and international evaluations, make the Alytus district famous or simply successfully establish themselves in the national and international segments, we invite you to contact the Communication Department of the Alytus District Municipality Administration by e-mail. e-mail [email protected] and tell the residents, guests, and tourists of our region about it. Maybe your success story will inspire someone to create their own business.
