A poor campaign, an election campaign without scandals, just another poster with candidates’ faces and promises.

But we will put someone at the helm of the state. And how will we solve the referendum issue?

There is also not as much information about the referendum as it could be. Therefore, not everyone knows that when they come to elect the president, they will also have to speak in the referendum on Sunday.

It is officially declared to be a referendum on the preservation of citizenship, or so-called dual citizenship, but there are still questions about how the vote will take place. Because the ballot paper does not say anything about dual citizenship.

The Seimas, which initiated the referendum, decided that the nation will be asked whether they agree with the following provision of the Constitution: “Citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania is acquired at birth and on other grounds and procedures established by the constitutional law. The Constitutional Law also establishes the grounds and procedure for the loss of citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania.”

On social networks, citizens are wondering why the question is formulated in this way.

Some do not understand how to vote, while others say that even if they support dual citizenship, they will not vote for such a change.

Why? Because the referendum does not introduce the possibility of dual citizenship. In the referendum, people approve the constitutional law, which they know nothing about, have not seen it, and only one Seimas knows what will be written in that law. Maybe new conditions will become clear when citizenship can be revoked more easily. It seems to be very relevant now.

At the same time, such a decision removes the prohibition of dual citizenship from the Constitution, so it will be possible to alternate the issue of acquiring and losing citizenship depending on the political mood.
