An open letter, also signed by US singer Katy Perry and representatives of Frank Sinatra’s music, warns that if left unchecked, artificial intelligence will “bring everyone to the bottom”, it said BBC.

Tech giants including “youtubetested AI music creation tools.

“We need to protect ourselves from predatory artificial intelligence that is used to steal artists’ voices and images,” the music stars said.

They also called on tech companies to commit to not creating AI music creation tools that undermine or replace the artistry of songwriters and performers.

Artists worry that these technologies could prevent fair compensation for their work in the future.

In an open letter prepared by “Artists’ Rights Alliance (- lit. “Performers’ Rights Union”) and which was published on the website ““Medium”the artists said that if artificial intelligence is used irresponsibly it will “infringe on their rights and devalue the work of artists”.

They said the way artists’ work is being used to build some AI models and systems is an “attack on human creativity” and warned it “infringes on the rights of creators and destroys the music ecosystem”.

Artificial intelligence in the music industry

Music Industry AssociationsUK Music’ interim chief Tom Kiehl said he shares the concerns of artists who worry that their work is being used without permission to teach artificial intelligence.

“This is tantamount to music plagiarism, so any company that engages in such activity needs to stop and take a more responsible view of our music industry.”

Performers should give their consent and receive proper evaluation and compensation for the use of their works in artificial intelligence systems”, T. Kiehls was of the opinion.

Means dissatisfaction

In recent months, after a song in which artificial intelligence mimics the voices of artists Drake and The Weeknd went viral, artists across creative fields and genres have spoken out about the harms of artificial intelligence.

Drake expressed strong disapproval of the song, which sounded very similar to his own work. The song was actually created using artificial intelligence voice cloning tools – Drake’s voice was recreated. Although the track appeared “Spotify” and “Apple Music platforms, it was suddenly removed.

Other artists have since spoken about it, including British artist Sting BBC said he believes musicians face a “battle” to protect their work from AI-generated songs.

“The ingredients of music belong to us, the people,” he said.

However, not all musicians are against the use of artificial intelligence in the music industry, with electronic music artist Grimes and DJ David Guetta among those who support the use of such tools.

Grimes even encouraged fans and aspiring musicians to use her voice and said she would share royalties for successful AI-generated tracks that use her voice.
