A fire broke out in the warehouse of the IKEA shopping center in Vilnius on the night of Tuesday, Thursday.

The shopping center was temporarily closed on Thursday after the fire.

As Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD) spokesperson Edita Zdaneviien informed BNS on Thursday, the report about the fire in the shopping center on Viking street was received at 3:57 a.m.

The fire department brought the flames under control at 5:38 a.m., but firefighters remained at the IKEA shopping center until 10 a.m.

When the first police arrived at the scene, the goods stacked on the metal stela were on fire in the warehouse. According to preliminary information, 54 sq. meter area, there was a fire source, the entire warehouse premises were covered. Firefighters used a lift, evacuated the premises and the incident is being investigated, according to E. Zdaneviien.

According to the initial data, the employees were not harmed.

Renata Dant, manager of IKEA’s corporate services for the Baltic states, says that in the event of a fire in the store’s warehouse, a fire alarm will sound.

Due to the fire, IKEA is closed on Thursday. At the moment, the effects of fire extinguishing are being liquidated in the premises, therefore the IKEA store in Vilnius and the Vedikas restaurant are closed today, said R. Dant.
