Vilnius residents still cannot wait for a decision on the future of the Vilnius Sports Chamber. Everyone already knows that the building will not be demolished. However, a decision on who could settle there and when the reconstruction work will begin is still awaited. For now, Turto bankas plans to clean the building, the estimate of which is about 20 thousand. euros.
According to Turto bankas representatives, the cleaning work should last several weeks. The building will be cleaned of graffiti. Since the territory of the building is fenced, every case of its defacement is considered vandalism. It is difficult to fight with that, so the building is periodically repaired and cleaned of graffiti.
Torto Bank understands that people sometimes want to express themselves and show their artistic abilities. Therefore, the company is inclined to cooperate with residents who have artistic ideas and promise to help find a legal solution by destroying the building.
The company notes that this is not a competition and a call for an artistic idea. If people are already inclined to draw on the building, then the company could potentially agree to cooperate. In this way, additional funds would not have to be wasted on cleaning, and the artistic expression of the residents could be reflected legally.
The building of the Lithuanian Sports Chamber built on the Jewish cemetery during the Soviet era and its territory in Vilnius are planned to be turned into a place of memory, but it is not yet clear in what form this will be implemented. The building will certainly not be demolished – that was previously promised by the head of the working group deciding the fate of the palace, director of the Lithuanian National Art Museum (LNDM), Arūnas Gelūnas.
Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė mentioned in January 2022 that the Vilnius Sports Palace could become a museum or a memorial to commemorate the history of Lithuanian Jews.
