Euroleague youth tournament selection started on Friday. Two basketball players of Lithuanian origin played their first match there: Roy Krupnikas and Jonas Žilinskas.
Krupnik led the youth of Villerban ASVEL (1-0). 88:60 (29:15, 25:12, 16:16, 18:17) crushed the host Dubai Falcons (0-1) youth academy team.
The 17-year-old from the French club scored 22 points (2/3 doubles, 4/5 triples, 6/9 penalties), 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal, 6 errors and 24 utility points in 27 minutes.
The 186 cm tall defender is registered as German in the EuroLeague system.
Ulm’s “Ratiopharm” (1-0), which plays in the same group and is represented by Žilinsk, also celebrated the victory. 83:67 (26:14, 19:15, 25:21, 13:17) defeated “Aris” of Thessaloniki.
Žilinskas collected 7 points (2/2 doubles, 1/1 triple, 0/2 penalties), 7 rebounds and 1 steal, 2 assists, 3 errors, 5 fouls and 8 utility points in 19 minutes.
The 204 cm tall forward also holds German citizenship. Both he and Krupnik have represented the youth national teams of this country.
