In the second round of the championships, the Danish tennis talent faced fierce opposition from the Argentinean Mariano Navones (ATP-41), whom he defeated with the result 5:7, 7:6(2), 6:4 in an almost 3-hour long tennis performance.

The lower-ranked tennis player served the match at 6:5 in the second set and was within two points (30:15) of the career victory, but then he made two unprovoked mistakes and lost control of the match.

In the third game, H. Rune was already in an ideal position to win (5:1), but then the 20-year-old managed to lose three games in a row. However, when submitted for the meeting for the second time, the favorite withstood the pressure of his opponent and reached the finish line.

If the Dane already managed to reach the finals in the Monte Carlo and Rome Masters tournaments during his career, the tennis player’s best result in the championships in Madrid remains the third round (2023). True, this is only Holger’s second visit to the Spanish capital.

Playing a breakthrough season, M.Navone already managed to reach two ATP finals this year – in the 500-point tournament in Rio de Janeiro and in the ATP 250 competition in Bucharest.

Alexander Zverev (ATP-5), one of the favorites of the tournament, reached the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open much more confidently.

The German tennis star defeated Croatian Born Čorić (ATP-34) 6:3, 6:2, who defended his points from last year’s semi-finals and will leave the top 50 after the tournament in Madrid.

Sascha is hunting for his third trophy in the Spanish capital – he won here in 2018 and 2021.
