in 1863 In the Biržai district, near the Šniurkiškii manor, a group of rebels against the tsar’s rule led by Antanas Mackevičius was defeated.

in 1994 At the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Western European Union (WEU) held in Luxembourg, six Eastern European countries, including Lithuania, were granted the status of associated partners of the WEU.

in 1998 In the Indian Ocean, armed sea pirates attacked and robbed the motor ship “Algirdas” of the Lithuanian Sea Shipping.

in 1999 The 6th Lithuanian Basketball League championship ended with a solemn event in the Kaunas Music Theater, the winner of which was “Žalgiris” from Kaunas, who also won the Euroleague gold in the same year.

in 2013 President Dalia Grybauskaite was presented with the prestigious international Charlemagne Award in Germany, in the historic town hall of Aachen. The award called the “Oscar of Politics” is given to the president for Lithuania’s contribution to achieving the unity of the European Union and the economic stability of Europe as a whole.
