“I am thinking of proposing not to participate in the EP elections and to remove that list altogether,” A. Mazuronis told Elta.

According to A. Mazuronis, decisions on the adjustment of the EP list should be made by “workers” on Thursday, at a remote meeting of the party council.

Such considerations were heard from the “workers” after the Financial Crimes Investigation Service (FNTT) officials visited the party’s headquarters in Vilnius on Tuesday regarding the investigation being conducted by the European Prosecutor’s Office, possibly related to the activities of the party’s founder, Viktor Uspaskich, in the EP.

“This situation presupposes that in the near future the party will either have to change the leaders of the EP list or change the chairman of the party,” said A. Mazuronis.

The leader of the Labor Party, Andrius Mazuronis, will propose to suspend the membership of “Darbiei” founder Viktors Uspaskich in the party after the law enforcement conducted procedural actions at the headquarters of the Labor Party.

“I will also propose to suspend his membership while all those processes take place,” A. Mazuronis told Elta.

He added that he does not yet know whether V. Uspaskich himself intends to participate in the meeting of the party council to be held on Thursday.

“To tell the truth, I have no desire to wonder if he will join or not (to the council meeting – ELTA). As his conscience says, so let him do it,” said A. Mazuronis.

ELTA reminds that the list of the Labor Party in the EP elections should be led by the party’s honorary chairman V. Uspaskich.

On Tuesday, law enforcement officers visited the headquarters of the Labor Party and carried out certain procedural actions, taking away a stack of documents, the news portal “15min” reported.

It is stated that the international investigation, on the basis of which the officials visited the party headquarters, is being conducted by the European Prosecutor’s Office. This was confirmed to Elta by the representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Gintarė Vitkauskaitė-Šatkauskienė.

The Labor Party has repeatedly found itself in the sights of law enforcement. In the so-called “black bookkeeping” case, the party has been accused of fraudulent accounting. At that time, the leader of the party Viktoras Uspaskichs and the currently imprisoned MP Vytautas Gapšys and other persons were sentenced to fines.

The Labor Party was found guilty of bribery and influence trading in the “MG Baltic” case – it was awarded more than 300,000. a fine amounting to EUR 10,000, and the former party member V. Gapšys was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison.
