Hot air balloon flight – like a horror movie: more details about the condition of the fallen people have been revealed

A hot air balloon crashed into buildings in Šilutė district on Sunday evening, seven people were injured, two of the injured are in intensive care.

As announced by the Police Department, the accident was reported at 8:30 p.m. within the boundaries of Vilkų Kampos village in Šilutė district. Due to a change in the direction of the wind, the balloon became uncontrollable and hit the buildings in the village of Vilkės Kampos and got stuck in a tree.

A man born in 1963, a minor born in 2009, a girl born in 2011, a woman born in 1990, a man born in 1963, a woman born in 1970 were injured flying in a hot air balloon.

A woman born in 1986 who controlled the hot air balloon was also injured. All of them were hospitalized in Klaipėda and Šilutė hospitals.

Jolanta Juškevičienė, Head of the Communication Service of the Klaipėda University Hospital, told BNS that four victims were admitted to the Klaipėda University Hospital after the accident in the Šilutė district.

“One of them was released for outpatient treatment after examination and consultations, three were hospitalized. Two of them – a man and a woman – are being treated in the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit, the third is in the Clinic of Abdominal and Thoracic Surgery. According to the doctors, the condition of the patients is stable”, J. Juškevičienė reported to BNS.

According to Lina Banienė, representative of the Tauragė County Police, the flight was of a recreational nature, and the pilot flying the hot air balloon had a permit issued for it.

“According to initial data, it was a recreational flight, as the passengers were from various cities: Vilnius, Pagėgii municipality, Tauragė city. Recently, the officials clarified the situation – the pilot had a permit”, L. Banienė told BNS.

Rūta Ežerinskė, the public information specialist of Šilute Hospital, informed that one person was delivered to the hospital and is currently receiving assistance.

“Only one person was brought to us. The person is hospitalized in the traumatology department of surgery and he is currently being provided with all the necessary assistance,” says R. Ežerinskė.

Officials have started an investigation into the accident – the circumstances are being explained. The victims are currently being interviewed.
