According to the minister, this step implements Lithuania’s strategic decision to expand relations with the Indo-Pacific region.

“During the term of this government, we have already opened embassies in Australia and Singapore, as well as a trade representative office in Taiwan”, the report quoted the head of Lithuanian diplomacy as saying.

G. Landsbergis said in his welcoming speech that the opening of the Lithuanian representative office is the opening of another gate to Asia, which will promote economic development and innovation between countries.

“We see the Republic of Korea as one of the most important like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific region,” said G. Landsbergis.

The guests who attended the opening of the embassy were greeted by the interpretation of the 26-meter-long ship “Independence” by the Lithuanian artist brothers Gatavecki on the wall of the new embassy.

G. Landsbergis said that the liquefied natural gas terminal ship “Independence” is a symbol of the unity and independence of the countries, which started the rapid growth of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, energy, and smart technologies.

Ambassador Ričardas Šlepavičius asserted that we see South Korea as a reliable intermediary when looking at other Asian markets.

“Lithuania is pursuing strategic diversification, the goal of which is to strengthen economic relations with like-minded countries in India and the Pacific Ocean region, therefore we see the Republic of Korea as a very important partner,” said R. Šlepavičius.

Lithuania officially established an embassy in South Korea in 2021, the first Lithuanian ambassador to this country, R. Šlepavičius, was appointed two years ago.
