The most impressive cake competition will be held in Vilnius – MadeinVilnius.lt

--

In May, the second most impressive cake competition is held in Vilnius, where all Lithuanian confectioners – both professionals and amateurs – can demonstrate their talent. Cakes made for the competition will be judged by TV presenter and cookbook author Beata Nicholson, wedding planner Laura Vagonė and other members of the commission.

Contestants will present their confectionery masterpieces on May 24. in the capital’s hotel “Pacai” during the “Revolution” festival of ideas and trends to be held in Vilnius. The winner of the cake competition, chosen by the judging panel, will be announced and awarded at a grand ceremony that will crown the three-day festival.

Registration for the competition will take place until 2024. May 10th.

This year’s theme is the royal wedding in Pacai

According to the organizers, everyone who believes that a cake can be not only a delicious dessert, but also a confectionary work of art is invited to participate in the competition. Cakes and their design will be judged by a large panel of experts – wedding planner Laura Vagonė, TV presenter and cookbook author Beata Nicholson, pastry chef, pastry and dessert instructor Jekaterina Zvonkuvienė, chef and pastry chef Evaldas Juška, pastry chef Dovilė Valentienė.

Each contestant can choose to enter one of two categories: “Free Theme” or “Classic Cake”. There are no rules for contestants seeking victory in the free theme, a category where confectioners unleash their creative potential through trends and breakthrough new ideas. The members of the commission emphasize that when creating a free theme, the most important thing is to reflect the concept of “the most impressive cake” – even if it will be made of vegetables.

Meanwhile, the Classic Cake category requires the cake to use at least one of the following flavor and textural elements: honey, ginger, clove, cinnamon, rose water or puff pastry. In addition, each cake must be made up of at least 4 different textures, be at least 40 centimeters high, and the culinary idea must reflect the theme of this year’s competition – “royal wedding in Paco”.

All elements used for decoration must be edible, except for the cases where covered and decorated mullage is used for the lower part of the dessert – this element may not be edible. If sugar flowers are used for decoration, they are also allowed to be fixed with wires.

L. Vagonė: napoleons and meduči returned to the peak of popularity

Aurimas Kamantauskas, the organizer of the “Revolution” festival and the head of the event services group “ReKūrai”, is happy that the cake competition attracts more and more attention from the festival’s guests every year.

“Last year’s participants surprised both the festival guests and every member of the commission with their ideas and creative realization. “Participating in the cake competition acts like a springboard to success – it’s a great opportunity to reveal your pastry talent, make valuable acquaintances and maybe even start a new business,” says A. Kamantauskas.

The members of the commission inform that 5 essential criteria will be taken into account when evaluating the works of the participants: compatibility of the theme, compatibility of tastes and textures, visual aspect (including decor, idea and its presentation), complexity of the chosen techniques and their implementation, thematic compatibility of colors and their application.

L. Vagonė, a wedding planner and a member of the cake competition committee of the festival of ideas and trends “Revolution”, adds that trends are returning “delicious and edible” traditional cakes to Lithuania, so similar combinations of flavors can be expected in this year’s competition as well.

“It seems that Italian pistachio cakes were at the peak of popularity until recently, then fresh and soft fruit pastries, and this year there will be a lot of napoleons and honeydews sold to wedding couples.” I hope that we will get similar flavors at this year’s Revolution cake competition,” says L. Vagonė, a member of the commission of the most impressive cake competition.
