Polish museum workers turned the latest research into a modern story in Vilnius

Every year more and more new and interesting facts about the uprising are revealed. For example, were the female rebels combatants on the battlefield or just underground actors? How does Kindergarten Spam relate to all the events, and which is better, the scythe or the shotgun? These and other questions are answered by the Polish History Museum’s interactive exhibition “Insurgents of 1863-1864”, which will be on display in Vilnius from April 25. until May 19

The National Museum, the Palace of the Rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, in the Great Courtyard of which the exhibition is located, invites you to the opening of the exhibition. The event will take place on Thursday, April 25, at 5:00 p.m. An open-air exhibition prepared on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the uprising will be presented here.

In the courtyard of the Palace of the Lords, visitors will find sixteen pavilions where information is provided in Lithuanian, Polish and English. The exhibition consists of two parts: one tells the story of the uprising – how protest ideas began to spread in society, the uprising matured; visitors will get to know the progress of the uprising, the personalities and social groups that participated in it, or even the jewelry and fashions inspired by the uprising theme. The exhibition exhibits archival documents, photographs, excerpts from press publications of that time. Visitors will have the opportunity to create a large-format puzzle themselves.

In the second part of the exhibition, people will be greeted by a multimedia dome, where animations will be shown, presenting the stages of the uprising of interest to visitors. The sights and sounds here will create a colorful, twist-filled story of the uprising and will, as it were, allow you to “travel” to the times of the uprising. Revealing the stories of the participants of the uprising, the origins, beginning and progress of the uprising in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and part of Ukraine will be told.

April 25-26 the exhibition will be accompanied by an educational zone with attractions for children and young people, where participants will be invited to create or take part in quizzes. The presentation of the exhibition in Vilnius is organized by the Museum of Polish History, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius, the Polish Institute in Vilnius, the National Museum and the Palace of the Rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
