It was agreed that the connection of the North-West and East electricity transmission networks would be recognized as a project of special national importance

--

The aforementioned network consists of the construction of the 330 kV electricity transmission line Darbėnai–Varduva–Mūša, the construction of the 330 kV electricity transmission line Panevėžys–Mūša and the construction of the 330 kV transformer substation “Varduva”.

It is claimed that the approval of the resolution would increase energy security, ensuring reliable transmission of electricity and stable operation of the system, creating the necessary conditions for the development and integration of offshore wind and onshore renewable energy resources (RES).

The construction of the 330 kV electricity transmission lines Darbėnai–Varduva–Mūša and Panevėžys–Mūša and the 330 kV transformer substation “Varduva” would form the internal connection of Lithuanian 330 kV lines in the northern part of Lithuania.

The integration of the electricity market would also be improved due to increased throughput with the Latvian electricity transmission system in both directions.

It is also planned to ensure the reliability and quality of electricity transmission for large electricity consumers in the Northwestern Lithuania region and to increase the possibilities of RES integration in the 110 kV and 330 kV networks of this region.
