Even today, many families cherish the memories of their fathers, uncles, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who joined the partisans or helped the partisans. Many know the locations of the great battles and bunkers, where the mutilated bodies of the fighters were dumped.

The history of partisan warfare is a bridge between that time and present-day Lithuania, so the question of whether it is still relevant today should not arise. This year, as we celebrate Museum Night, we look back and remember these 80-year-old events.

May 18 we invite you to come to the Museum Night event “I choose freedom” – not only to visit the museum for free, but also to experience partisanship yourself.

From 6 p.m. a stylized forest area will be set up in the museum’s garden – a camp where children and adults will learn about the challenges of partisan warfare, which are often difficult for people today to understand. What was important in partisanship? What was life like in the bunker and everyday life? What were the dangers and how were efforts made to avoid them? In this camp, it will be possible to get to know and hold authentic weapons of that time, learn about encryption tricks and forest camp printing, play the unique board game “Reconquer Lithuania”, take the partisan oath and test the accuracy of shooting targets with machine guns.

Also in the program are the fanfare and military march of the Air Force Orchestra of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the 18th century. volleys of an artillery gun.

Activities and entertainment await not only outside, but also inside the museum.

The famous 2003 film will be displayed in the museum. Jonas Vaitkaus’s feature film “Vienui vieni”. Probably many have seen this movie, but it will be a great opportunity to remember it.

The evening program includes not only cinema, but also literature and music. Ernestas Kuckailis, a soldier of the Lithuanian army and author of books on the history of Lithuanian warfare, will present his books about the partisan generation – “Wishes from the forest”, “Partisans: fight, survive, defeat” – with the visitors of the night of the museum. Songs about love, hope, sacrifice, life and death will be performed by the great Aistė Smilgevičiūtė and the group Skylė.
