As reported by the Utena county VPK, on May 1. around 12 o’clock 15 min., the body of a man (born in 1965) was found in the lagoon of Antalieptė, in the village of Bajotiškiu, in the village of Bajotiškiu, Zarasu district.

Due to the man’s disappearance on July 23 last year. a pre-trial investigation into the search for the person was started.

A fisherman noticed the drowning near the shore and called the General Emergency Center.

Firefighters swam in two boats for about 3 kilometers to the island where the bodies were found.

Many searches have been conducted by boat and sonar since last year for the missing man in Marios, but without success.

Antalieptė Lagoon covers an area of almost 2,000 ha and is the second largest pond in Lithuania after Kaunas Lagoon.

The maximum depth is 46 meters, the average depth is 7 years.

The lagoon of Antalieptė was formed in 1959, after the damming of Šventoja, a hydroelectric power plant was built.

In the vicinity of Salak, it is said that on the fateful day of July last year, two men swam to the lagoon.

“They said that they allegedly sailed on a raft on which a sauna was built.

After a while, one man fell asleep. Woke up – no friend.

When and where he could have fallen into the water was completely unclear, as the raft had already been blown away by the wind and waves.

As far as we heard, the man who drowned was not a local, who came to visit someone.

Been looking for him for a long time. “Maybe the body was in the water and it was hooked on something, because there are many stumps at the bottom, left from the time when the forests were cut down, before Šventoja was dammed,” local residents told the portal.

After the remains were found, a pre-trial investigation was launched to determine the cause of death.
