MuOn the night of the New Year, we will start with an excursion that will take us to the summer of 1915. A soldier of the Kaiser German Empire, who speaks Lithuanian perfectly, will invite you to visit Fort IX together. You will hear why Fort IX has held up so well, how it was built, and what role it played in the attack on the fortress. During the tour, you will travel to the defensive wall, fire points, see the engineering military solutions of Fort IX and you will be able to admire the panoramic view from the roof of the fort. At the end of the tour, we will present the newly discovered old ice house of Fort IX.

Janina, a long-time employee of the museum, who is well known to many visitors, will invite you to return closer to the present day, take a walk together around the fading memorial complex and look at it with fresh eyes on the next excursion. While walking along the Memory Trail, you will see the most important objects of the memorial complex: The occupation exposition building, the buildings of Fort IX, the field of mass killings and the monument to the victims of Nazism. Did you know that each component of the complex has a symbolic meaning? How did it happen that the author of the monument, Alfons Vincent Ambraziūnas, narrowly missed the opening ceremony? The memorial complex was opened 40 years ago – what has changed during this time? You will learn more about it during the tour.

Both tours are free.

The event is open to the public, filming and photography will take place. By participating in the event, you agree to be seen in photos and videos of the event and are informed that these photos and videos may be published publicly.
