“People’s behavior is the complete opposite of attitude. And here we should probably take certain actions that would activate people”, said G. Sinkeviče during the data presentation conference on Thursday.

At that time, the director of the Employment Service, Inga Balnanosienė, emphasizes that with the rapid development of technology, the passivity of employees endangers career opportunities.

“This is a concern because all sectors are undergoing changes, jobs are being automated, artificial intelligence is changing workers. At that time, people are passive and think that it does not affect them”, explained I. Balnanosienė.

As the survey shows, only 23.5 percent of persons are considering the possibility of improving competence in the near future, and even 76.5 percent. does not intend to study.

According to the Employment Service, young people, persons under 30 years of age studied the most in 5 years. – in recent years, about 41% of them studied, as well as persons with higher education – 52.2%, living in the capital – 44.6%, holding managerial positions – even 75.7%.

At that time, unskilled workers had the least education – 10.2 percent, skilled workers – 22.7 percent. and persons unemployed for more than a year – 15 percent.

The survey revealed that even 38.9 percent respondents do not want to raise their qualifications because they do not have the desire and need, at that time 34.4 percent. of individuals said they lacked time. G. Sinkeviče notices that there are more women than men among those who state that there is a lack of time for improving competences.

“It is probably still common in our culture that a woman returns from work, then cleans the house, takes care of the children and so on. There is no time left for improvement”, said G. Sinkeviče.

Those considering educational opportunities mostly said that they wanted to improve themselves – 38.8 percent, get a higher salary – 37.5 percent, and climb the career ladder – 32.8 percent. The most popular fields of study are accounting and finance, with 16.1 percent improving their skills. of those interviewed, foreign languages – 15.4%, business creation and development – 14%.

Older people raise their qualifications the least

During the survey, it was recorded that only one fifth of 60-year-olds of people who have graduated in the last 5 years have raised their qualifications. At that time, there were 28.7 percent of such persons in the 50-59 age group, 40-49 years. age workers – 38.2 percent, and between 30-39 years. – 37.8 years old

What’s more, only 14.7 percent of persons who are over 60 years old would like to improve their qualifications. According to I. Balnosienė, such persons simply do not think that learning leads to better career opportunities.

“Older respondents do not associate education with career opportunities – their most common motivation for education is self-improvement and well-being. Meanwhile, 30-49-year-olds mostly cited opportunities to receive higher wages as the reason for studying,” explained the head of the Employment Service.

According to the survey, 55.9 percent do not see the need to study. persons belonging to this age group, and 50-59 years old are not far behind. Lithuanians – 48 percent. At that time, younger persons aged 30-39 do not study due to lack of time – 42 percent. of such persons cited this as a reason for not raising the qualification.

According to the data of the Employment Service, in addition to lack of time or need, the respondents also mentioned that learning is expensive (14.3%), some cannot find suitable training (11.7%), another 11.4% doubts that the courses will improve employment opportunities, while 4.9% complained about the lack of information.

G. Sinkeviče notes that even every tenth Lithuanian indicates that employers do not create working conditions for learning. According to her, employers are afraid that when employees’ skills improve, they will change jobs.

“Employers stated that they would not really want employees to study too much. According to them, this would make it easier for employees to move to other jobs,” said G. Sinkeviče.

According to I. Balnanosienė, the residents’ attitude towards retraining is extremely relevant for the Employment Service and will allow the career centers “Karjeras” that are opening this year to carry out their activities more efficiently.

“This (research results – ELTA) will allow us to work more purposefully with jobseekers according to age groups, their competencies and needs,” said I. Balnanosienė.

According to the Employment Service, 14 regional career centers “Karjeras” will be opened throughout the country this year, to which people who want to choose a suitable profession or change their activity profile can apply. Currently, 8 such centers are already operating.
