The Alytus District Municipal Council approved the lists of land reclamation works for 2024, financed by the municipality and the state, and assigned the director of administration Vytas Arbačiauskas to organize and carry out the procurement of services and works specified in the decision.

After the completion of the works, the condition of the reclamation structures will be improved and the proper functioning of the drainage systems will be ensured. The value of all of them is almost 200 thousand. euros.

For these funds, almost 55 km of the slopes of the melioration ditches will be mowed, emergency failures of structures will be repaired, projects will be prepared and expertise will be carried out. The biggest works will take place in the cadastral area of Mikalava, where 4.5 km of drainage ditches and 4 culverts will be repaired.

The amelioration ditches of the Žembre stream in the Miroslav cadastral area and the buildings in it will also be repaired.

“The places where the projects will be carried out are chosen taking into account the cultivation of the land, the demand for work, the intensity of work. It is very important that the projects and works are useful for the farmers of Alytus district. Therefore, we ask for the patience, understanding and cooperation of the land managers and owners so that the work goes as smoothly as possible”, says the vice-mayor of the municipality, Aurim Truncė.

According to the vice-mayor, the municipality carries out annual maintenance of the melioration ditches, but the contribution of the residents in the maintenance and conservation of the ditches and melioration structures is no less important. “It should be more intensively demolished unviable vacant lots, which constantly fill ditches and cause damage to both land reclamation structures and landowners – their land areas and field roads are flooded,” adds Irma Stenionienė, head of the Department of Agriculture.
