British doctor Gareth Nye explained to the Daily Mail that the fingers can be swollen due to many medical conditions or simply due to old age.

“Oedema is a visible swelling where the body starts to build up fluid in the extremities, usually the feet and ankles, but also the toes, causing them to swell,” Dr Gareth Nye told the Daily Mail.

Older people may develop this disorder if they sit for long periods of time. King Charles III was repeatedly photographed with swollen hands and feet, noticeable after long flights or trips to hot countries.
